There was a misunderstanding about how the light wire and brake cable connectors should be set up.
The bikes as they come out of the boxes are assembled like this:
Undo the cable at the rear wheel end and cut the casing to size to suit the frame and handlebar setup. Install casing ends at the cable stops.
